Illuminate The Night – 4 Performances That Set the Singapore Skyline Ablaze

Singapore is the city that (almost) never sleeps, and at night is when some of the most spectacular performances take place.

You might want to take things slow at night, but believe us when we say that these events are absolute must-sees.

So, without further ado, let’s get on with the show.

1. Garden Rhapsody

Gardens by the Bay is a popular tourist draw for its unique floral exhibitions (Humanity’s Greening of Planet Earth in November) and tasty eats in the vicinity.

During the day, take a stroll through the domes and snap a picturesque shot or two, but don’t leave too early!

At night, the Supertree Grove transforms into an outdoor theatre as the trees light up against the night landscape.

Each tree becomes a musical instrument, belting out Broadway show tunes in a light and sound performance that will take your breath away.

Shows are held daily at 7:45 pm and 8:45 pm and lasts about 30mins. Entrance to Garden Rhapsody is free, but the Gardens by the Bay domes are ticketed.

2. Fireworks At Sentosa

Fireworks are banned from public sale in Singapore so you only enjoy them during selected holidays like National Day Parade and New Year’s Eve. At Sentosa however, firework shows happen daily.

Sentosa’s Wings of Time is a laser and musical show at Siloso Beach, and culminating each performance is an array of fireworks that explode above the beach backdrop.

The show is ticketed, and the best place to enjoy the fireworks would be from inside. However, they are still visible from the beachfront.

Another firework hotspot is the Crane Dance show near the entrance to Sentosa. Here, gigantic mechanical cranes come to life in an array of laser and water effects.

The dance is a courtship of love, and explodes at the end with an array of fireworks.

Shows are held daily at 8pm.

Entrance to the Crane Dance is free. Here’s a link to their website.

3. Dance and Music At The Esplanade

The Esplanade Theatres are where art blooms across a variety of spaces, from the Esplanade Tunnel to the (nearly) 2,000 seater theatre, where Les Misérables was recently brought to life in explosive fashion.

These shows are ticketed, but the Esplanade Waterfront Theatre hosts free performances weekly from Fridays to Sundays.

Depending on the time of year, the festivals also differ, with the upcoming ones being Kalaa Utsavam (Nov) and Voices (December).

And as you enjoy your show, you’ll be greeted with the gorgeous night skyline of Marina Bay.

Outdoor theatre performances run from 7:30pm to 10:45pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Sundays.

For a cosier setting, the Concourse at the Esplanade Mall also offer free shows, though mostly for vocals.

Concourse show timings vary across the day, you can check for them on the main website below.

4. Spectra at MBS

Every night at the Marina Bay Sands, there is a curious story told.

Set against the glimmering skyline of Marina Bay, Spectra strings together Singapore’s history in a four-part tapestry of water and lights.

Acts I and II feature the Little Red Dot’s history and unique cultural background, while Acts III and IV portray the future, wondrous future of Singapore against a soundtrack composed by Singaporean musician, Kenn C.

As this performance is held outdoors, there are no restricted seating so if you happen to be in the area, we invite you to stop for a while and take it all in.

Spectra performances are held at 8pm and 9pm (Sunday – Thursday) and 8pm, 9pm and 10pm (Friday and Saturday).
