Shophouse by Shangri-La: Singapore Delicacies and Gifts

Arriving at the new lobby of Tower Wing at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, your eyes will be drawn to two beautiful plant vivarium displays flanking the entrance to the hotel. You’ll then notice what may look like a bakery, but Shophouse by Shangri-La is much more than just that.

A new culinary gift shop that launched along with the reopening of the Tower Wing, Shophouse by Shangri-La offers a fine selection of freshly baked pastries and breads, hearty Bánh mì sandwiches, refreshing salads, healthy fruit yoghurts, and local delicacies and culinary gifts.

The pastries and breads at Shophouse by Shangri-La are handcrafted and baked daily by Area Executive Pastry Chef Hervé Potus and his team, so you can be sure of its freshness.

Behind the guarantee on quality, these baked goods are a lengthy labour of love. Consultant Master Baker Chrisophe Gros, who works alongside Chef Herve, shared some insights into the artisanal breads and his process.

Unlike how quick and easy the video guides online make it out to be, these delicious and wholesome baked goods take up to 48 hours to make. All the breads are made with sourdough – which are shaped by hand and proofed overnight before it goes into the oven.

True to the wellness theme, none of the bread uses any added sugar or butter. The one exception is the Milk Loaf, which is only available on selected weekends as a delightful treat.

Refreshing Beverages

For a refreshing pick-me-up, explore the range of fresh bottled juices and isotonic drinks that are perfect if you’re heading outdoors, especially when you’re going to be exploring Singapore’s parks and gardens.

The shop’s ideal location right beside the driveway makes it very convenient to pop in and grab some munchies before heading out, or for a quick browse while waiting for the valet or taxi.
